Uses for Hasp Locks

In this blog entry, the expert New Orleans lock installation and New Orleans commercial locksmith service experts here at Liberty will detail the uses and installation of hasp locks.

What are hasp locks used for?

Hasp locks were invented centuries ago. The ancient Romans used them to close chests. Contemporary hasp locks are made of a steep sheet with a slot meant for affixing the staple – which then is used for the attachment of a padlock. Some hasp locks have built-in locks or spring-loaded bolts that may be combined with a padlock. Hasp lock uses differ based on the form of hasp lock. Hasps and padlocks are used commonly on building exteriors and gates, and simple hasp locks are used on chests, cabinets, and even diaries! Advanced hasp locks might use different locking mechanisms or might be made of different material. Combination hasp locks can provide robust security, making the amount of keys you need to carry lighter.

Hasp Lock Installation

Hasp lock installation is a breeze for the expert New Orleans lock installation team here at Liberty Locksmith. First, we use a tape measure to figure out the area on the door the lock should be installed on. The hasp latching arm and hasp lop will be tested on the front of the door. The latch will be moved away from the hinge and markings for the screw drilling will be made. The latch hinges will be attached to the door using screws and a screwdriver. The hinge flap will be tested for proper fitting in the swing arm in both open and closed positions. The hasp swing arm will be held in place during this process. Screw hole areas will be marked on the door. The swing arm will then be attached to the door with screws. The hasp swing arm will be tested to properly and smoothly close over the loop. Then the hasp lock is fully installed!
